Take A Vet Fishing is built around something we call a Crew.
A Crew is a small group of 4 to 6 Participants supported by a dedicated Mentor we call the Crew Chief. The term comes from the Air Force, where a Crew Chief is the steady, trusted professional responsible for the aircraft and the people connected to it. In TAVF, the Crew Chief serves in a similar spirit. They are not there to command or control. They are there to support, encourage, and make sure every Crew Mate has the opportunity to get on the water.
We use the word Crew intentionally. A team can sometimes feel performance-based. A crew is different. A crew is relational. A crew is in the boat together. Everyone is paddling in the same direction. If one Crew Mate needs a break, the others naturally pick up the rhythm. If someone is brand new, the pace slows down so they can find their footing. If someone is having a rough season, the crew steadies the boat and keeps moving forward together.
Each Crew Chief works to make sure every Crew Mate gets out on the water at least once during the season. Trips do not have to be complicated. They can be simple, short, and flexible. An hour on a local stretch of water can matter just as much as a full day trip. The goal is not perfection. The goal is presence, connection, and shared time outdoors.
Small Crews create trust. Trust builds confidence. Confidence builds resilience.
That is the spirit behind TAVF.
One Crew. One outing at a time. One cast at a time.
